Nantahala Bank and Trust Company opened it doors for business on October 4, 2004. The community responded quickly to the idea of a locally owned and operated Bank and deposited $4,000,000 during the first full month of operations. News of this success spread quickly and in late December the bank was approached about bringing its special brand of Community Banking to the citizens of Clay County. By March 2005, the required applications were filed and approved and our first branch office opened to an enthusiastic reception in Hayesville, NC. In 2007, we opened a full service branch in Murphy, NC. We’re extremely proud of how much we’ve accomplished since 2004. It’s the direct result of the tireless efforts of our talented, experienced staff and the overall success of our lending activities. As a true community bank, we appreciate the support we continue to receive from our friends and neighbors in Macon, Clay, and Cherokee counties.
